The Associated Press reports an Israeli patrol crossed into southern Lebanon to clash with Palestinian guerrillas. Israeli forces blew bridges and water lines, claiming no casualties, while guerrillas reported heavy losses and claimed to repel the attack near Kfar Chouba. Four Israeli soldiers were wounded in a prior ambush on Mt Hermon.
A winter snowstorm and cold wave sweep the nation leaving 28 weather related deaths and dozens injured. Tornadoes strike Georgia Florida Panama City injuring several and a baby girl. Snow totals reach five inches Texas to Mississippi and up to nine inches in Kentucky and Tennessee. A plane crash near Paintsville Kentucky kills three. Temperatures plunge below zero in the Midwest.
