Tragic Drowning Near Amarillo Lake
A 12 year old Amarillo boy Steven Jerome Smith drowned at Martin Road Lake after a raft mishap. Fire department divers recovered his body at 3 45 p m. Two companions Harlan Richard Moore aged 8 and Billy Joe Anthony aged 11 witnessed the accident and fled to a nearby home for help.

Boy Slips From Raft Crowns in City Lake
Amarillo police explain they dragged a raft from the lake area late last year and expected dismantling. A boy born October 9 1956 in Tacoma Washington and a Mesa Verde Elementary student died in the incident. Funeral services are pending. He is survived by his mother and stepfather two sisters a half brother and grandparents.
