Paris January 12 Aristide Briand today resigned as premier in a dramatic Chamber of Deputies scene. Raymond Poincare, former president of the republic, expected to succeed him after Briand’s talks with the British prime minister at Cannes.
In a dramatic chamber scene M Briand won applause as he announced plans to withdraw from government. He told colleagues a statesman cannot face bullets from enemies while accepting shots from within. Millerand's refusal to delay led to Briand’s final resignation and Poincare’s tentative call to form a new ministry.
Governor Neff announced the possibility of a formal statement on why martial law was declared in Mexia and surrounding oil country. Proclamations applied to Precinct No 4 in Limestone and Precinct No 5 in Freestone. Troops from Fifty sixth Cavalry Brigade en route with supplies, under Captain E A Gajeske, to support General Barton and General Wolters. Wortham is among towns under martial law. other towns unnamed.

Associated Press report from Pittsburgh Kansas states that striking miners in the Kansas field are ordered to return to work by imprisoned leader Alexander Howat. The four month strike is claimed to have shown the Kansas Industrial Court law failed to end disturbances. Howat cites opposition from John L. Lewis Governor Henry Allen and operators but says the strike was successful and workers should resume original jobs.
