Girls Flee Burning Building Near Beaumont

Twenty five girls from a rural Beaumont area NYA home making project escaped a three story fire. Some sustained minor burns while fleeing a flaming corridor from the top floor as the blaze started when a girl tried to light a gas heater.

Negro Inmate Escapes Jail by Sliding Four Stories Down Pole

Joe T. Hollaman, 23, 5'6.5", 149 pounds, medium build, escaped from Potter County jail by sliding four stories down a grass rope from the eighth floor roof to the fourth floor offset. He entered a jury dormitory, exited via windows, and fled the courthouse area. Police, sheriff, and highway patrol searched for him, tracing tracks to a flower bed near the restroom window.

Reduction in Soil Funds Would Hit Texas Hard

Federal budget cuts would severely impact Texas soil conservation districts.
