In Tacoma, Dr. W. W. Mattson's ransom of 28000 dollars for his son Charles ten remains unpaid as kidnappers demand new proof. Four inches of snow hinder direct contact while federal agents pursue an undercover strategy, with no sign of the captor’s activity.
Archie Herring, a Pittsburg County convict, was found guilty of murder in the death of guard C. D. Powell during a May riot at the McAlester prison. A life sentence was recommended by the jury after the May 13 incident.
Cottonwood Ranch 10 miles east of Wellington began as a hunting lodge for Col. William E. Hughes and the Continental Land and Cattle Co. It grew into a large private preserve famed for quail, with 8,000 acres, 500 cattle and 6 horses on a site bought in 1905 for $50,000.

Coroner reports Mrs. Albert E. Trombly a 47 year old University of Missouri professor's wife shot her nine year old daughter Jeanne as she slept then killed herself while another daughter Alberta cried for help. Jeanne is listed in critical condition. The Trombly family moved from Austin Texas in 1922 where Trombly taught at the University of Texas.
Representative Maverick a Democrat from Texas denounces the American Bar Association as stupid, undemocratic and behind the times on child labor. He cites constraints on lawyers amid debates on business regulation, security and social legislation, claiming lawyers have less influence than ever.
Detroit January 10 Peace negotiations in automotive strikes that closed General Motors plants in 15 cities were stalled tonight on the issue of plant evacuation by union members. Governor Frank Murphy hopeful. James F. Dewey canceled trip to Washington to confer with Labor Department officials. George F. E. Boysen reports threats as 8490 join Flint alliance. Deputies hunt a man and a 9 year old boy who accompanied Ruby Harris from Alabama after her body was found in a wash near Temple City on November 17. Mrs. Bessie Cochrane of Gadsden identifed the victim as her sister. State relief files show Ruby Harris and her son William, 9, received aid until recently.
West Texas fair and warmer in the north and southeast portions on Monday. Tuesday remains fair with warmer conditions in the southeast. New Mexico sees fair weather Monday and Tuesday with a somewhat warmer spell Monday.

J Paul Pinkston 36 of Greenville died in a Lubbock hospital from injuries after being struck by a car while crossing a street. Visiting his parents he reportedly leaped in front of another vehicle while attempting to evade it, suffering a fractured thigh and other injuries.
Amarilloans flocked to local lakes to try auto sledding the season's first real winter sport. Hundreds of cars pulled sleds or used vehicles as sleds, some skated, and a toboggan slide sprang up at Canyon’s T-Anchor ranch lake. One accident occurred when 15 year old Eugene McCartt fell from a car pulled sled and broke his kneecap. He was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital.
Dick Powell and Joan Blondell were seen in the snow at Yosemite and reported alive while a hoax claiming Powell was killed circulated. Blondell’s mother confirmed by phone that the couple is well at the winter retreat. Amarillo expects milder weather with temps rising after a cold spell.
President Roosevelt outlined a plan for a comprehensive overhaul of federal administration during a White House meeting with seven Democratic leaders including Vice President Garner and Speaker Bankhead. The session foreshadowed Cabinet talks and a special message to Congress on Tuesday.
Autopsy in Peiping shows 17 year old Pamela Werner was killed by a skull fracture from a blow and also subjected to a criminal assault. Doctors from Peiping Union Medical College disclosed the findings after the body was found alongside the Tartar Wall.
Damaged lines in a major Texas ice storm delayed an Associated Press dispatch to Lufkin. The message was routed 3000 miles via New York and Houston before reaching its destination, illustrating the relay by Western Union to overcome the outage.

Accused were Sam Civello Leon Civello and Joe Civello for receiving and concealing 10341 grains of non tax paid narcotics and Dick Smith Uhle Eichenbaum and Guy Payne for similar traffic in 3666 grains. Two other men were under arrest at Hot Springs Arkansas in connection with the ring.
Paris reports plan for occupation of Spanish Morocco if Francoists resist. France promises full British military aid and fleet cooperation in the Straits of Gibraltar. Moroccan armies could seize most of the Spanish zone within 36 hours, with British troops filling gaps as French forces redeploy. A second protest to Franco and a Berlin note would precede action if German troops remain. The sultan of Morocco could call for action via a dahir.
Former President Herbert Hoover said Roosevelt is right in urging ratification of the child labor constitutional amendment. He cited health and fair chances for children and argued for orderly constitutional change over pressures on the Supreme Court. The amendment has been ratified by states representing a majority of the population and needs ratification by 12 more states.
