T M Mike DeLano a 31 year old self employed dirt moving contractor filed Thursday as candidate for city commissioner Place 1. He cites rising crime and promises to act though he plans to study issues before elaborating. DeLano lists Bill Fellers Jr. as campaign manager and lives at 3109 Lynette.
A major winter storm unleashed two inches of snow in under an hour in Tucumcari as blizzard conditions were declared by state and city police. Other towns in eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle reported light to moderate accumulation and reduced visibility late Thursday.
After a six hour executive session the Amarillo City Commission issued a formal statement reaffirming commitment to the police department and crime control. Mayor L Ray Vahue noted no concrete personnel changes were planned and stressed teamwork among law enforcement, prosecutors, and citizens. The grand jury had criticized the APD for focusing on minor infractions over major crimes.
