Amarillo won the bid to host the 1931 Texas Teachers convention after outpolling Austin Fort Worth Wichita Falls and Mineral Wells. About seven thousand visitors are expected in late November making it the largest convention for the state group and first in the Panhandle. Support came from city officials chambers of commerce and regional educators with acclaim for Northwest Texas and Panhandle communities.

Jones at the Amarillo Tire House as service man is in Northwest Texas Hospital with a concussion after a car collision at Harrison and Seventh Avenue Friday night. He was alone in his car and taken unconscious to the hospital by a Griggy ambulance. the other driver was named Vernon.
