Dallas January 9 rediscount rates on all paper handled by the Federal Reserve Bank were reduced from 5 to 6 percent. Governor B A McKinney announced the move saying it aligns with actions in other districts.
Mexia Texas January 9 six wells have come in the Mexia field since Friday boosting total daily production to more than 200000 barrels. The new wells bring the field’s output to a record level and indicate sustained growth in the region’s oil production.
Dallas Jan 9 The executive committee of Southern Methodist University accepted the resignation of Dr John A Rice as professor of Old Testament praising his work since joining the faculty in 1929. Rice submitted his resignation after criticism of a book he authored that was said to contain statements not approved by the Methodist Church.
Philadelphia January 9 Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover was proposed as director general of the Sesqui Centennial exposition with a salary of 100000 dollars a year for five years by Councilman Charles B Hall as the Sesqui Centennial committee of the Philadelphia city council organized. The exposition is planned for 1926.
San Francisco January 9 Roscoe Fatty Arbuckle's second trial appeared on the court calendar but did not proceed beyond preliminaries. He pleaded not guilty to manslaughter in the Virginia Rappe death connected to a party at Hotel St Francis. The case was continued until next Wednesday.
Dublin January 9 Ireland is without a government as Eamon De Valera resigns after his bid for re election as premier fails in Dail Eireann by sixty to fifty eight. Guards killed Bourland with Blair Morris and others nearby. All escapees were white violent offenders from the prison farm squad of fourteen pagon.
