Tyler Texas Associated Press report says county attorney filed murder charges against 63 year old Mrs C H Grant for killing her 11 year old son and injuring herself after setting fire to the house and barn. Neighbors report Pellagra and intermittent insanity, husband absent.
In Claude Texas on January 7 the $60,000 school bond issue for a new high school building passed by 104 votes to 66. Final efforts to boost turnout included a student parade and prizes for best posters won by Edwin Garrett Fay Dye Leona Hope and Bryan Waggoner.
A sixty gallon copper still was unearthed yesterday by the sheriff's department a few miles from the Canadian bridge. Buried in a straw stack and empty, it was hauled to the city around 8 PM Saturday. Officers said it lacked accessories but was seized to deter future liquor-making at the owners' place.
In Galveston four children died after a Christmas tree fire in the Biron home. Betty Biron age 5, Junior Bircy age 7, Roswell Moreland age 3, and Comer Bevil age unknown were among the victims. Dr and Mrs Bevil’s young son John Bevil was critically ill and not expected to live. The blaze occurred yesterday afternoon prompting hospital admission to John Lely Hospital.
A Tokio cablegram received by the Japanese language paper Nippu Jiji in Honolulu states Marquis Okuma is alive and reports the death news yesterday from Tokyo was erroneous. The dispatch confirms he remains living.
Jonas Kelas Ni, a delegate to Congress from the Territory of Hawaii and a member of the royal Hawaiian family, died this morning in Honolulu. The loss marks the passing of a key political figure tied to the monarchy era and territorial governance.
Ambitious plans emerge for a public amusement park on 160 acres five miles northwest of Amarillo near Cliffside along the Amarillo Creek. Centralia Illinois January seventh excitement rose as a new oil well producing 300 barrels daily was completed at eight hundred feet two miles south of Centralia. The strike opens a new field for the region and signals potential growth for local industry.

Washington Jan 7 The Senate debate on the Newberry case reached a dramatic climax as Senator Townsend of Michigan, in behalf of his colleague, warned that certain interests threatened his political life if he voted to sustain Newberry’s seat under the Ford initiated contest. He said he could not take the easier path and would not submit to cross examination when Newberry speaks on Monday.
Washington dispatch reports five major naval powers meeting at the arms conference voted to outlaw as a weapon of war and adopt a Root resolution urging universal adherence to a prohibition. Debate on air craft limits ended with opposition to restricting development, while a ban on bombing open towns may be proposed as part of a five power agreement. France, Britain, and Japan signaled support. France called it a bond of honor, while Britain and Japan accepted the policy in principle.
Gen. John J. Pershing, chief of staff of the U S Army, on his second San Antonio visit since returning from France, inspected five military camps, watched the Second Division parade, saw a flying circus by Kelly Field aviators, witnessed a Brooks Field balloon flight, met old acquaintances at Fort Sam Houston, and attended a banquet hosted by the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

Theo C. Friedman Jr., 14, of Brooklyn, was charged with homicide after a fist fight at Erasmus Hall High School in which Harold Disney died from a fractured skull. The incident occurred in the school basement and the autopsy confirmed the fatal injury. Friedman was turned over to the Children's Society.
Washington January 7 A general agreement for enacting a bonus bill for former service men in the present session of congress was reported after a White House dinner conference with President Harding and senators representatives and cabinet members The plan would use receipts from allied debts to the United States to pay the cost If insufficient a sales tax might be employed The agreement was provisional and subject to revision based on further Republican sentiment in the House and Senate Other issues under discussion included permanent tariff and the allied debt funding bill
Longview Texas January 7 city marshal and farmer Allen Ginn met in the business district and Ginn was twice shot in the stomach. He was alive late today and resides north of town.
Governor Sproul of Pennsylvania says he will not resign to be appointed U S senator to succeed the late Boris Penrose, but would seek the office only through a state election if he decides to run.
Dallas resident B A McKinney was chosen governor of the Eleventh Federal Reserve District by the district's board of directors. W F Ramsey, succeeding KR Van Zandt, announced the result. R Co Emerson, formerly assistant to Governor Harding, was named deputy governor of the district.
Assistant Attorney General L. C. Sutton ruled that a member of the State Board of Legal Examiners cannot temporarily serve in Texas higher courts in place of a disqualified judge. The January opinion clarifies eligibility requirements for temporary judicial replacements within the Texas system.
In Austin on January 7 the flag on the State Capitol flew at half mast by order of Governor Neff to honor the late Judge A C Pendergast former member of the court of criminal appeals who died at his Warn home yesterday.
AUSTIN Texas Jan 7 Governor Neff named Dave Reed Austin Senator H L Barwin Paris and KB K Russell Annona to represent Texas at a conference of cotton growing states aimed at solving current industry problems in the South Date and venue to be decided later.
Governor Neff named delegates from Texas to the congress of good roads advocates in Chicago, January 16 to 20. Listed are Curtie Hancock, Preckenridge, C. N Avery of Austin, Ceril Horne of Cleburne, Miga Decia, Tamar West, Wace, C. W. Walker, Dathart, and Ed Bloodworth of Clarkeville.

Harry Hampton Gandy, 18, son of A. Gandy of Hanover, was instantly killed when his car’s wheel came off and the vehicle overturned. Grady Hughes, injured but expected to recover, was riding with him in Cameron Texas, near the foot of a hill.
