The Fourth Annual Golden Spread Forensic Tournament opens Friday and Saturday at the First Baptist Church educational building. Twenty four colleges from six states enter with events in extemporaneous speaking original oratory and poetry reading. Debates will use a single topic: Resolved that Congress should be given the power to reverse decisions of the U S Supreme Court.

The craft, in good order with a veteran crew, yielded no prior warning and debris and engines were found hours later in marshy ground near Southport North Carolina where 34 bodies were recovered by nightfall.
President Eisenhower will depart in late February on a goodwill trip to Brazil Argentina Chile Uruguay and Puerto Rico accompanied by Mrs Eisenhower and Milton Eisenhower. Stops are Feb 23-26 in Brazil Feb 26-29 in Argentina Feb 29-Mar 2 in Chile and Mar 2-3 in Uruguay with layovers in Puerto Rico both directions. The voyage aims to boost U S understanding and bypasses Peru and Venezuela amid regional tensions.

In Corona California a ram and ewe escaped their pen rammed people and a student hid in a bus. The driver blocked the ram at the door while humane officer Cecil Stahl arrived and captured both animals.
