Cantwell Named New Superintendent at Gatesville School
J W Cantwell of Fort Worth was chosen by the board of control to succeed C E King as superintendent of the State Juvenile Training School at Gatesville. Cantwell, 53, formerly led Texarkana Corsicana and Fort Worth public schools and headed the Agricultural and Mechanical College for seven years. He will assume duties when King leaves on January 18 following exoneration of King on abuse charges. Cantwell was selected from forty seven applicants.

New York January 6 The State Labor Bureau through mediators M d Reagan and John J Beala acted to end a harbor tug boat strike linked to the United Association of Masters Mates and Pilots. Officials say 62 boats affected while some exchanges report under 150 of 2000 workers struck. Only deck officers and some deck hands joined the stoppage. engineers’ association refused to back the strike as wage cuts spurred protest. Capt William A Maher says many engineers are quitting despite union action.

Blood Tarred And Beaten Farmer In Hardin County
D L Mathews a 50 year old farmer from Hardin County was beaten and tarred by men who met him on the road near Beaumont. They forced him into a car chained him to a telephone pole in Kountze and warned of more attacks on other Hardin County citizens. Mathews says one attacker was an officer and four men are identified though names withheld. He was indicted for making liquor.

A letter signed B. O. C. warned Governor Neff his life would be endangered if George McKinley Grace, a Black man sentenced to death for assaulting a white woman in San Antonio, were executed. Grace was hanged this morning. the governor had no comment.
