A ditching machine severed the coaxial cable feeding Amarillo television about 29 miles west of Elk City Oklahoma, cutting service to Amarillo and Albuquerque for about three hours. Long lines crews restored network by 4 45 PM.
President Eisenhower told Congress a broad plan for the Republic includes a balanced budget and a token payment on the national debt, while opposing tax cuts at this time. He aligned with leaders in Congress on rejecting immediate tax reductions.

The Washington to Philadelphia segment covered 131 miles in about two hours, with no speed record attempted. Newsmen joined to Newark, then Philadelphia, before return to Washington.
Potter County Attorney Jerry Kolander filed a civil suit against 85 year old former district clerk Ben Smith and the surety companies American Surety of New York and The New York Casualty Company. The action seeks recovery of 18,498.92 missing from Jan 1 1943 to Aug 31 1955 after audits found discrepancies. Smith served since 1931 and resigned Saturday. commissioners authorized the suit. The complaint notes 13,862.92 was appropriated by Smith to his own use.
Amarillo and vicinity forecast calls for fair skies and continued warm conditions. Friday temperatures expected with a low around 37 degrees and a high near the upper 60s to low 70s. A mild breeze and dry pattern favor outdoor plans.
