Boeing Stratojet Crash Kills Three Near Amarillo AFB
A Boeing Stratojet from Altus SAC crashed two miles southwest of Amarillo Air Force Base shortly after 2 PM, killing all three crew members Captain Rex R. Witzel Captain Edward H. Stien and A.2.C. P. G. Stratford. The jet torn a telephone pole and burst into flames debris covered a square mile. Witnesses said it appeared to dive into the ground. AAFB officials launched an investigation and SAC officers arrived to review the crash.
