Ronald Edward Menter Sr., 22, a former mental patient, confessed to killing Jan David Broderick, 20, of the Panama Canal Zone, after a beer fueled brawl in Texas. He described driving toward Houston, an argument over stopping for beer, and then firing a .38 revolver at Broderick in Hempstead. He wrapped the body, dumped it, then moved on distributing guns and fleeing to Shreveport before being captured in Newark.

Panhandle Pioneer John Beverly Dies at 98 in Pampa
John Beverly 98 of Pampa died at Highland General Hospital at 3 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church with Rev. Richard Crews officiating. Burial in Clarendon Cemetery follows under Duenkel Carmichael Funeral Home. Beverly, born 1857 near Weatherford, began Panhandle work in 1881 and spent decades with Mill Iron Ranch, JA Ranch, and Bell Ranch before residing in Pampa since 1929. Survivors include his widow Kate, son Lon, daughters Alice Waln and Ethel Charter, plus a niece and two nephews.
