New York reports a sequence of four earthquakes within about forty-five minutes. Father Joseph J. Lynch of Fordham University identified the events and estimated the epicenter roughly 6,500 miles from New York, but could not determine the direction.
The 72 year old surgeon from San Francisco and former president of the American Surgical Association died today at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston.
Edward J. Neil AP war correspondent dies at 37 after shell wounds on the Teruel front near Caude. Two colleagues killed, another wounded when their automobile was struck during the insurgent offensive to retake Teruel. Neil, famed for boxing coverage, had reported major fronts from Ethiopia to Spain. Dwight L. Pitkin to escort body from Zaragoza to the United States.
Colorado visitors praised Texas hospitality after the Cotton Bowl, with 6000 travelers passing through Amarillo en route from Dallas. Five special trains carried over 2000 Coloradans home, autos brought in many more, and hotels ran full. Dr. John Andrew of Longmont called the trip a generous gesture and loyalty from Colorado to Texas.
Richard H. Sewell. Spearman county attorney of Hansford County, died in a Perryton hospital from injuries in an automobile accident ten miles west of the city on the Perryton Spearman highway. The tire blowout is believed to have caused the crash. Sewell was returning from Perryton when the car overturned several times. Funeral services will be held at Follett with Rev. Loftin officiating and burial in Follett. He is survived by his parents and two sisters both teachers in public schools.
Howell Thompson a 40 year old window washer fell from the sixth floor of an Dallas office building Thursday. He struck a guy wire and landed on the shoulders of Joe Breedlove a Sulphur Springs pedestrian who suffered a wrench shoulder and severe bruises Breedlove aided at the scene Thompson died today from his injuries.
Seven high school age youths were killed when their car ignored lowered crossing gates and struck a speeding eastbound New York Central Line passenger train in Butler Indiana. Watchman Figg reported the gates were down for the eastbound train and the auto did not stop. It was a terrible scene.
Funeral rites for Jack GC Collins Moore County resident and Sunray founder will be at First Baptist Church Channing at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Channing. Collins died in a Plainview hospital from injuries suffered in an automobile accident 11 miles south of Plainview last Thursday. He founded Sunray in 1929 1930 and was a longtime Republican leader. He was born in Hartley in 1893 and attended A and M College, later working at the First National Bank of Channing. He leaves a daughter Louise and son Jack Farle, plus four sisters and his parents.
Light rain fell in Amarillo late last night creating light showers across the city. Stormy skies gave way to a gentle drizzle as residents reported wet pavement and cooler temperatures.
Congress heads into a one issue session after holiday adjournment with focus on business woes and anti trust legislation. Lawmakers reconvene at noon tomorrow to receive a personally delivered message outlining administration priorities.
The opening session will be aired at noon on KGNC through NBC red network facilities. Texas stations WRAP Fort Worth WFAA Dallas KRLD Dallas and WOAI San Antonio will also carry the opening and the President's address via network channels.

He is expected to urge revised tax schedules and limit undistributed profits while Congress weighs tax and reorganizational proposals. Senate anti lynching legislation faces filibuster risk as work resumes in January.
E M Dowd of Amarillo started a side venture gathering Kentucky blue grass and blue gramma grass seed with a five foot stripper. He and his son Ralph run 11 machines, have gathered 35 000 pounds this season, and sell to Soil Conservation Service Farm Security Administration and Texas Extension Service.
Cloudy forecast for West Texas with rain possible by Monday night. Warmer temperatures expected in the southeast on Monday. Tuesday brings more clouds and rain in the east and north, followed by cooler air.
The evangelist Gipsy Smith drew nearly 3 000 to the Municipal Auditorium for the opening night of a two weeks mission. He preached on The Lost Christ after a rousing song service and noted that many stayed after benediction. He sang Pass It On despite a cold and urged a right relationship with God, stressing born again conversion and avoidance of sin.
