Mrs. Eugene Talmadge wife of Georgia governor declined an invitation to visit the White House saying the New Year is busy for farmers. The invitation from Mrs. Roosevelt was for January 8 the day before a Democratic National Executive Committee meeting which Talmadge attends as a member. She owns a farm in South Georgia and is active in its operation.
Brig. Gen. Henry H. Arnold ordered every available plane from the March Field pursuit group to search for Lieut. John P. Helm missing since late Monday after a flight from Hamilton Field. About 30 planes took off to seek the flier, with speculation he may have crashed in fog.
