Circles close to King Alfonso express belief that Primo De Rivera will not resign now and that royal approval could come shortly. Rumors persist of a plan to change the government, restore the constitution, and hold elections in 1930, but Madrid remains uncertain.
The New York federal reserve reports December net gold loss of 90.8 million dollars, cutting 1929's year gain to 116 million. November loss was about 23 million. Exports reached 72.2 million with 47 million to France and 21 million to England. Foreign gold earmarking rose 22 million, the largest December drop since May 1928.
Col Charles A. Lindbergh, traveling with Mrs Lindbergh on New Year’s Day, says science in flying kept pace with progress in the Americas during 1929. Mrs. J. E. Wright aged 38 was jailed in Houston on murder charges after her husband, 38, was fatally shot at about 2:30 am in his La Porte home. Officers say the husband was shot with a shotgun. the wife, once a refinery hospital nurse, claims he shot himself. He wore a night shirt, and the scene was near a New Year celebration. Both gun barrels fired.
Two armed men bound and robbed a Dallas dry goods store owner and an employee of 150 dollars. David Rosenblatt was alone when they entered and tied his hands and feet with wire. his brother Nathan, who returned from lunch, was also bound.

Earl C. Scott of Borger was acquitted of murder in the April 15 slaying of Mrs. Bonnie Turner in a Borger grocery store. The verdict came after two and a half hours of deliberation. Mrs. Scott was released on charges dismissed for lack of evidence. Scott testified self defense claiming Mrs. Turner threatened to kill them. the state relied on eyewitness identification.
Bradstreet's Journal reports 1929 saw 19.70 percent business failures in the United States with liabilities of 628,990,634 dollars. The year had an 8.2 percent drop in failures but a 214 percent rise in liabilities from 1928, aided by bank suspensions.

Officers hunt for thieves who took over 2000 dollars worth of purebred Rhode Island and Black Cornish fowls from Edward Spurrell near Groom Texas. A truck was used to haul the birds while Spurrell was away.

A crudely designed bomb wrapped in Christmas trim exploded in John S. Hall's kitchen in Seat Pleasant Maryland killing Mrs Naomi Hall Hrady a newlywed and wounding seven others. The package was addressed to the dead girl with little clue to the bomber.
Aydelott, now general superintendent of the Burlington System at Galesburg, Illinois, was named general manager of the Fort Worth and Denver City railway Tuesday. The appointment came from Gene John A. Hulen, new vice president of the road, who succeeds Frank K. Clarity, who recently resigned from the post.
