A late December bank robbery in New Orleans escalated to lethal violence. Gunmen stole about $3,100, wounding a teller and a bystander while a pursuing force closed in on two suspects arrested nearby. One suspect killed, a cashier-teller died later in hospital. rest of bandits fled after a garage chase.
Reappointed Amarillo attorney Mr. Gulekie was named to a six year term on the State Board of Education by Gov Dan Moody on Wednesday. He previously resigned from the state colleges board after three years and was on the board of education since its creation. A Henderson club woman, Mrs J T Watkins, was also reappointed.
The Reverend C. F. Ball, 55, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Portales, died by suicide with a revolver. A note found by his daughter Mazie spoke of financial, physical, and mental ruin. His three sons Earl Neil and Albert were at home. The pastor had recently returned from a weeks visit in Dallas, Texas.
