Casey Dale Jacobs of Weatherford drove a pickup through the Capitol grounds gate on a Friday morning and attempted to ignite the truck’s gas tank. He was stopped by police, faces a felony criminal mischief charge and psychiatric evaluation, with no injuries reported. Authorities noted the motive is unclear and the event appears isolated. Witnesses described him as ranting and talking to himself as he waved and shouted fire. The vehicle showed minor front-end scrapes, and the gate suffered no damage.
The forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of morning rain today with a high of 50 to 55, a low near 25 tonight, and mostly clear skies Sunday with a high of 55 to 60.

In Dallas the White Rock Community Church voted 106 to 76 to reaffirm Pastor James Simmons, the Canyon native once known as Barre Cox, whose 1984 disappearance and amnesia tale drew national attention. Simmons said he will resign by month’s end and may join the voting congregation.
Randall County commissioners approved 2.4 million in budget adjustments reducing tax clerk and justice of the peace services at the Amarillo courthouse annex. The rollback election caused a 19 percent staff cut, eliminating most overtime and part-time help, and prompting daily noon to 1 p.m. closure and 4 p.m. public closure on weekdays except Thursday.
