Randall County budget cuts edge toward rollback goal

Four commissioners and officials agreed to voluntary salary reductions and use of the reserve fund to mold the budget after Tuesday’s 1.7 million cuts. James Farren and Sue Bartolino gave up 6,000 dollars each, while Craig Gualtiere sacrificed 15 percent of his 25,200 salary. Judge Ted Wood opposed using 491,000 from the reserve fund, saying he is not keen on taking the next year’s hit. One more job loss occurred as an investigator in the criminal district attorney’s hot check division was fired, with several vacancies remaining from earlier belt-tightening. Other staff praised voluntary sacrifices that kept others employed. The panel aimed to finish by Saturday’s rollback election.
