Unique storm hits Panhandle with mixed winter spring storms
The Panhandle saw a rare weather event with winter like cold and spring thunder storms. Amarillo peaked at 53 degrees at 8:30 a.m. and dropped 20 degrees by night. NWS logged pea sized hail and .45 inches of rain by 7:30 p.m. SPS crews worked overnight to restore scattered power outages as damage remained limited.

Champagne package mistaken for bomb in Canadian
Hemphill County deputies investigated a front stoop package with no address and faded UPS markings. After calling in the Amarillo bomb unit and opening the crate, officials found a bottle of champagne intended as a belated gift from a Pampa man.

Investigation casts doubt on Cox amnesia tale and disappearance
Wesley Barrett Cox later known as James Simmons vanished in 1984 after which he resurfaced in Memphis and Virginia under altered identities. Investigator Jay J Armes questions the amnesia story, suggesting Simmons staged the disappearance to come out as gay while remaining celibate. Armes notes Simmons had homosexual tendencies according to friends and family, and Simmons publicly claimed his sexuality at a Dallas press conference. Simmons later lived in California in church roles and now pastors White Rock Community Church in Dallas.
