New Cruisers May Join U S Fleet

Naval experts speculate Congress may be asked to add 10 to 15 cruisers as President Roosevelt eyes a larger shipbuilding program. The budget includes two battleships, two light cruisers, eight destroyers and six submarines, with possible supplementary estimates for more ships.

Brooks Funeral Set for Today Hereford TX

Funeral services for G. H. Brooks of Hereford will be held at 10 a.m. at the Black funeral home with Hereford Methodist minister officiating and burial in Hereford Cemetery. The 85 year old retired wholesale grocer died Tuesday after a long illness and left a large family including five daughters and one son.

Pioneer George Gerlach Dies After Long Career in Canadian

Canadian native George Gerlach aged 74, pioneer merchant and civic leader, died at 7:15 this morning at his home after a long illness. Born Feb 8 1863 in Virden, he moved to Canadian in 1887, built the Gerlach Mercantile Company, later Canadian Hardware and Everybody's Dry Goods. New Star Route Mail Service Planned for Pecos Valley

The post office department announced a new star route mail service between Clovis and Carlsbad New Mexico to start January 1. Patrons in Pecos Valley will receive Amarillo Daily News the same day as publication. The route connects with the Santa Fe train at Clovis, departing 2:30 AM and arriving in Carlsbad at 9:30 AM.

Three of Four Planes Crash In Colombia

Seven Latin American goodwill fliers were killed when three of four planes crashed in a mountain storm twelve miles south of Cali. The "Nina" "Pinta" and "Santa Maria" were Cuban and sought funds for a Columbus statue in Santo Domingo. The fourth plane, representing the Dominican Republic, landed in Panama.

Paris Utility Strike Paralyzes Public Services

Paris faced a total public service stoppage as 120,000 workers walked out, halting subway bus and trolley lines while gas pressure dropped and lights faded. Body of Man Found Aboard Yacht Off California Coast

Dwight Paulding, 49, shot to death, was found aboard the 51 foot yacht Afige, 190 miles south of Los Angeles, with three women, two men and a boy who had been adrift for three days. Coast Guard cutter Perseus rescued six survivors including Mrs. Gertrude Turner and her son Robert, plus others from Los Angeles and Dos Pueblos Rancho.
