Nine dwellings in southeast Paris were destroyed by fire late today. Firemen fought the blaze amid a strong wind that died down before dark. Pete McArthur, a firefighter, was injured when a truck overturned while answering the alarm, another firefighter was slightly hurt. The fire began on North Herron Street, two houses burned there, sparks carried four blocks igniting another dwelling, seven houses in the area burned before wind ceased and firefighters could contain the flames.
In Cobh Ireland on December 28 more than 1000 tons of cargo were removed from the White Star liner Celtic after it ran aground near Roche's Point at Cork harbor.
