Porgy and Bess Premier Draws Leningrad Audience

In Leningrad the Soviet premiere of Porgy and Bess played to a packed 2,400 seat Palace of Culture. Leslie Scott and Martha Flowers headlined the American cast as U S Ambassador Bohlen and wife observed. The audience, unfamiliar with the plot, followed the Gershwin score with enthusiastic ovation and a drummer keeping time after the curtain calls.

Texas Holiday Traffic Toll Rises Amid Violence Deaths

The Associated Press reports 95 total deaths in Texas during the Christmas holidays, with 58 traffic fatalities and 37 from other causes. The tally began Thursday midnight and Texas police projected 112 traffic deaths and 204 total deaths across an 11 day period ending New Year’s.

South Korea threats strongest possible action unless Red China returns four seamen seized in a Christmas sea clash. Peiping radio says South Korean warships shelled Chinese fishing vessels and seized two fishermen. Amarillo Woman Central in Lubbock Holiday Tragedy

Barbara Carpenter Keene 23, a former Amarillo resident, sparked a deadly Christmas Day affair in Lubbock. Gerald Witherspoon 20 of Hereford killed I C Enochs Jr. 30 and then shot himself after learning of Enochs engagement to Keene. The couple's engagement followed By phone call from Hereford. Police reconstructed the sequence at the Carpenter home on Christmas morning.

Airman Rescued From Precipice After 24 Hour Ordeal

In Tucson Arizona a 28 year old airman Ellison from Marana Air Base endured a 24 hour stay on a rock ledge in the Catalina Mountains.
