Irving police officer shot as escapees flee with robbery
Investigators filed capital murder warrants against seven escaped convicts linked to the Christmas Eve killing of Irving Officer Aubry Hawkins, 29, who died after responding to a robbery at Oshman’s Supersports USA near Texas 183. The suspects, two of whom are convicted murderers, fled from the Connally Unit in Kenedy after stealing a white Ford Explorer and weapons. The incident left Hawkins, a 1999 recruit and father of a 9-year-old boy, dead and sparked a citywide manhunt as authorities confirmed the robbers’ planned, executed attack and ongoing danger.
