Six Die in Minneapolis Hospital Fire

Six patients perished when short circuited Christmas tree lights ignited a fire at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis. Firefighters rescued over 40 patients, including babies, from the five story building as flames and smoke spread through the patient areas on the third floor. The dead, all from Minneapolis, include Mrs Pilla M Mullins and six others aged 47 to 82. one evacuated infant later died at Minneapolis General Hospital from a heart condition. The 125 bed hospital, about half full, faces about $100000 in losses and expects to take about 10 days to reopen patient floors.

Texas jailbreakers captured after 10 hour manhunt

Six Texas fugitives who wounded trooper J W Bilbrey and hijacked his cruiser were captured in pairs near Dover Tennessee after a 10 hour manhunt. Four Prisoners Break Jail in Albuquerque

Four prisoners escaped Bernalillo County Jail in Albuquerque early Sunday using a meat saw. Two escapees held reporter Jack Gill and his wife hostage for about two and a half hours, stealing their car and $6 before fleeing. Identified: Floyd L. Stokes, Robert B. Kennedy, Paul Reid, and Howard Luke. charges include grand larceny, burglary, car theft, and federal firearms violations. Authorities said the four remained at large late Sunday.
