In heavy fog on the Lakefront line two street cars collided, injuring more than 40 people including WPA worker Julius Goldman. Passengers were thrown from seats and windows as one car’s front end buckled and a bumper tore through the floor. Motormen reportedly could not see each other.
In New York a shopper Louise Marsh credited quick thinking and local vigilance after her purse and keys vanished. A tiny well-dressed woman, claiming to be 22, was arrested in a store burglary. the suspect changed name from Dorothy McBride of Ontario to Tessa Dean of New York. About 20 hotel keys were found in her possession.
Paris police pressed a secret inquiry into an arms and smuggling plot tied to opponents of the government. A woman employed by the French foreign office and a Lithuanian real estate dealer were arrested two weeks earlier. Suzanne Linder, 40, is charged with forging public documents and signatures, while Michael Rosenfeld faces charges of using false passports and violating an expulsion order.

Dee, 21, and Merrill suffered injuries but no serious harm to most aboard. co pilot John Battle and Sai Bageio of Milburn NJ among others hurt. Steward and seven passengers flown back to New York.
In Denver on December 21, the zoo monkeys including Crowbar behaved so well that keeper Sam Roberts dressed a steam heated winter quarters tree with spectacle cases keyrings mirrors and coconuts. The decorations were placed on the evergreen and the coconuts were found where visitors had left them.
A holdup man entered a Buffalo tire shop and imprisoned two employees, James Dezort and February Baskey, in stacked tires during the robbery. He demanded cash, escaped with $40, and the men freed themselves and alerted police.
