The House Un American Activities Committee chair said witnesses will be questioned before year end ahead of its final report on the current phases of the Communist espionage conspiracy. Names Franklin Victor Reno and Hedda Gompers were mentioned for the first time though not identified.
Committee investigations show the Communist espionage hazard remains in government offices. Mundt cites ties between Soviet backed proposals and foreign policy fiascos, warns disloyalty strings in the State Department. He notes progress in purging questionable figures, mentions Norden bombsight theft from Aberdeen Proving Ground, and says eight witnesses may be heard with Justice Department plans.

Four persons injured in a two vehicle crash 3 miles north of Dumas on Highway 287. John Bethal Boggs suffered critical injuries including a fractured leg and possible internal injuries. Neal Boggs and Mr and Mrs Raymond Rehor also injured. Rehor later released after facial and neck lacerations.

Edward J. Lada, 28, Newark veteran and former paratrooper, escaped from a US Army stockade in Berlin after receiving a letter from Ursula Schmidt, one of his two German girlfriends. Investigations showed Ruth Riecki, mother of his child, also involved as officers chased leads. Lada had allegedly sought visas and marriage plans before vanishing.
