Santa Fe man is accidentally killed while gleaning gun. W. H. McAbe planned trip to St. Louis intended to get some ducks to carry to his family. A resolution offered to Kellogg anti war plan.
William McCabe, storehouse man for the Santa Fe Railway, died after accident while cleaning a borrowed Winchester shotgun at his nephew's home in St Louis. The blast struck his heart and lung, ending his planned Christmas visit. Survived by widow, two sons, three daughters. Body to be sent to Missouri for burial Sunday.
A jury began deliberations at noon on the Texas state's suit against Phillips Petroleum and other defendants for title to about 40 acres of Hutchinson County oil lands and for accounting on oil profits. The state maintains the acreage is vacant school land.
Washington December 14 reports that President-Elect Hoover asked Secretary Mellon to remain as Secretary of the Treasury and that Mellon had accepted were dismissed today by the secretary as lacking authority.

Ray Young, serving four years for burglary and theft in Collingsworth county, was granted a 30 day furlough to help harvest the crop on his mother's farm near Mobeetie. Seven dependents rely on the farm, and his mother’s helper has gone totally blind.
A new West Texas railroad company with $1,000,000 capital was chartered by the Texas secretary of state. Incorporators include New York financiers and Texas and Oklahoma oil officials. The plan calls for a 10 mile line from Rankin in Upton county to Sheffield in Pecos county, close to Crockett county, with a possible link to Rankin’s Orient railroad. Ira G. Yates of San Angelo heads the board. W. A. Moncrief of Fort Worth will be president of the board.
In Anahuac Texas on December 14 the prevailing price is one hundred oranges for two dollars due to a good orange crop with some tree damage from last winter frost.

Don Miguel Chavez, 72, Santa Fe philanthropist and once a friend of Billy the Kid, died at St Vinecent's hospital after a stroke. Born in Santa Fe to poor parents, he built a fortune and became a major donor, funding three large school buildings and contributing to education with an estimated quarter of a million dollars in three years.
Associated Press reports Theodore Roberts a 64 year old stage and screen star died at his home in Los Angeles after two weeks of illness. Born in San Francisco he joined the original Lasky company and helped shape early silent film. He was famed as the grand old man of the films and held a unique life contract. his second wife died two years ago.
Dalhart reports over 150 pupils out and many businesses affected as flu runs through the town. Schools suspend operations until after Christmas holidays in hopes of a milder outbreak. Local officials describe the illness as mild but widespread.
