After over five hours in executive session the Amarillo school board failed to reach a decision on whether to fire Caprock High School principal Richard Mixon. The body met from 8 p.m. to 1:25 a.m., discussing a $1,000 self loan from school funds in 1970 repaid with interest in 1976.

Caprock High principal admits $1000 loan from school funds in 1970

Caprock High School principal Richard Mixon disclosed to the Globe-News that he withdrew $1000 from the general activity fund at Amarillo Savings now Imperial Savings in 1970, saying he faced an extreme financial crisis and could not obtain a bank loan. The withdrawal was recorded in Caprock records, but the loan was not discovered until September 1976 amid discrepancies of over $800 in the books.
