Elliott Roosevelt of Fort Worth visited the city last night on business, far from political duties. He travels from Fort Worth aboard Braniff air and ship services as he positions himself in his role with the Southwestern Broadcasting Company.
West Texas State Teachers College at Canyon receives authority to offer preliminary courses in law medicine and engineering and a full business administration program. The board approves immediate changes converting commerce to business administration with a four year BBA degree and plans pre law pre medicine and pre engineering for the 1936 session. John E. Hill of Amarillo chaired the committee and presented the recommendations.
F Man ley Branch will complete 12 years of service in the local post office tomorrow Friday December 13. He began work on a Friday the 13th and despite superstitions he has become the oldest employee in continuous service at the office.

Coral Gables Fla Dec 12 Gibb Gilchrist of Austin was elected president of the American Association of State Highway Officials as the 21st annual convention closed. Gilchrist, Texas state highway engineer, succeeds A W Brandt New York state highway commissioner.
In Geneva the League of Nations opens sanctions talks as Great Britain and France defer action. The council will meet next Wednesday to consider the Italo Ethiopian crisis. Smaller powers, critical of the plan, feel satisfied for now while Eden and Laval refrain from defending the Franco British settlement.
Secretary Hull argues that tariff reductions under the Canadian trade treaty will benefit U S cattle producers overall, responding to Western protests. He sent a November 26 letter to Senator Costigan, published December 12, detailing specific weight-based tariff cuts with quotas to limit imports.
Expert pilot Lee Bishop kept a Braniff air liner with 12 passengers from crashing after an outboard motor tore loose. The craft landed in a plowed field at 60 mph, ripping a fence and stripping landing gear but remaining upright. Passengers included Walter Cline of Wichita and two airmen.

The Great Plains shelterbelt project will advance with rapid planting next spring. About 46,990,000 seedling trees will be planted along a 100 mile wide corridor from Mitchell Texas to the Canadian border to curb wind erosion affecting crops.
Washington reports Secretary Morgenthau announces continued treasury purchases of silver but in scattered trading centers causing renewed market confusion. London and New York prices fell while Montreal rose, with the Treasury showing total acquisitions of 761.744 million ounces at varying prices, since December 1933.
An attorney general ruling held that a county wide net vote legalized liquor in all subdivisions not defined as local option areas under the new liquor law. Assistant Leon Moses noted that repealing local option prohibition would require more than a county election if justice precincts cities or towns had voted dry before statewide prohibition.
The Lundberg-Richter Company of Liberal Kansas submitted the lowest bid of 52117 for a new Borger Texas post office. Edmond and EF John Pfotzer of Philadelphia placed the second low bid at 54395. Nine bids were submitted in total.
LeRoy Drake, 19, a Sunday school attendee from Long Beach, pleaded guilty to killing his elderly aunt and uncle by cyanide laced coffee. He withdrew an insanity defense and sought mercy from Superior Judge Joseph Vickers to avoid the gallows for the September 19 murders of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Steinheuer. Separately, 10-year-old Warner Whitaker was killed by a car while crossing a street in Carthage on December 12.
J D Wrather a wealthy Tyler oil man was hospitalized with serious injuries after being slugged by a man he picked up on the Tyler Overton highway. Wrather said the assailant struck him with a gun during an attempted holdup and his car left the road hitting a tree.
American railroads plan near 50 million dollars in new equipment purchases. Six railroads earmark about 48.8 million for freight cars rails and rolling stock improvements. Pennsylvania leads with 10,000 freight cars costing about 25 million. Santa Fe to spend 3 million for 333 miles of rails and 1.6 million for car and locomotive improvements.
Texas Governor James V. Allred urged the legislative committee to present full facts on the Ranger Captain Tom Hickman case. He accused rivals of slurring officials and pressed for a fair hearing in Austin after a Fort Worth raid on a gambling resort.
A District of Columbia jury found Rep. John H. Hoeppel and his son Charles guilty of conspiracy to sell a West Point appointment for $1,000. The case centers on a bribe scheme involving securing a military academy slot.

A man identified by police as Thomas Wilder and also known as Thomas Kelleher 35 of the Seaman s Church Institute of New York was arrested in New York City on a fugitive charge tied to the 1932 kidnapping of banker August Luer of Alton Illinois. Fingerprint comparison confirmed the link and Alton police were notified.
