A Texas Panhandle investigation found no egg grading or labeling laws in Texas, causing farmers to miss at least 2.5 million dollars in egg sales as surplus and low quality eggs from other states flood the market. Housewives lack basic buying information due to absent protections as well.
Israeli troops attacked Syrian positions along an eight mile front by the Sea of Galilee in a midnight operation. Army spokesman Maj Dan Gov said 50 Syrians were killed and about 30 captured while Israel reported four of its soldiers killed and 12 wounded. Syrians shelled Ein Geb but no Israeli casualties were reported there. The clash followed claims Syria fired on Israeli boats and a police escort vessel. The battle occurred near Tiberias with continued firing heard after midnight.
A new Potter County Civic Loyalty League formed after Civic Righteousness Day in Amarillo. The group focuses on alcohol narcotics and juvenile delinquency and plans a meeting January 8 at 2 30 p m in First Christian Church with Rev J Frank Peery as temporary chairman and Dr Albert F Tucker as speaker. About 250 people attended the session led by Rev Eugene Slater with prayers by Dr New ton J Robison and other local pastors present.
A midtown Miami blaze destroyed a two story building adjoining the Roberts Hotel on Flagler Street. Ninety hotel guests evacuated, none injured though several ill from smoke. Damage estimated at 200000 dollars. Fire began on the buildings second floor near Rare Beauty Salon.

Omaha police questioned a former taxicab driver in the slaying of Carolyn Marie Nevins, 20, a University of Omaha coed. Det. Insp. Ernest Brown said the suspect gave conflicting alibis for Friday night after a reporter heard him boast of the killing.
The new 264 page telephone directories will be delivered starting today to Amarillo homes and businesses. Distributors will pick up the old directories as they deliver the new ones and the complete distribution is expected by Wednesday.
Asa Beck 45 climbed 250 feet up a KWTV tower at Oklahoma City to attract attention to his starving family in Guthrie. Troopers talked him down after he threatened to jump. Beck cited pneumonia and illness in the family and delivered a letter from Gov. Raymond Gary.

A Baltimore tavern keeper Eugenie McNeal, his mother, wife, and daughter were killed after a suspected break with reality. Police say the 61-year-old McNeal who threatened divorce became violent, wounding a policeman before killing himself following a rampage sparked by domestic strife.
