Fireball sighting across the continent described as a large meteor likely burning up in the earth atmosphere. Also reports of a wintry storm threatening Parliament, gales over the Atlantic, and a stricken freighter with 27 seamen.
Thousands of Marines from the 7th Fleet joined Vietnamese troops to seal a trap on about 1,500 Viet Cong near Que Son twenty miles south of Da Nang. Heavy fighting raged as artillery air support and napalm battered the Communists while Vietnamese relief forces tried to dislodge them from foxholes and bunkers.
Tivoli gardens in Copenhagen shuts down its flea circus due to a shortage of suitable human-tolerant fleas. Manager Else Torp cites hygiene rules and the inability to train ordinary dog fleas as the reason for the closure.

Seven people died and four were critically injured in a two car wreck on Texas 194, ten miles northwest of Plainview. The dead include five from one family. driver Melicio Cordova Martinez, 57, Anastacio Guana, 34, wife Francisca Guana, 30s, and their children Ramiro 7, Sylvia 6, Rey 4 months, plus Anita Cordova 18 who died later. The other car occupants were Rodolfo Rangel 19, Antonio Olivarez 16, Marcelino Gonzales 21, and Martha Cortez 18, all in critical condition. Police said both cars were welded together on impact after a two lane stretch, rain earlier that day, witness Garza saw a possible swerving collision. All victims were Plainview residents except Rangel from Edmonson. Martinez and Guana were farm laborers. Bodies taken to Lemon Funeral Home.
Willie Hicks of Conyers discovers his junkyard hosts Georgia’s first Federal Highway Beautification Program project. The federal government funds most of the work while the state handles on site execution as locals react to a national initiative.
Hicks operates a junkyard 25 miles east of Atlanta with about 300 wrecked autos. The Georgia Highway Department will plant 18 trees, 150 shrubs and 99 vines along the interstate right of way to screen the yard, using red maples, redbuds, willow oaks, dogwoods and red cedars plus Russian olive ligustrum and Carolina jasmine. The project costs about $2500 and 2000 feet of plantings, with 56 years in business.
In the General Assembly committee, Goldberg rebutted Soviet and allied claims of U S aggression in Viet Nam and Latin America. He called the conflict a prime example of subversion and overt military intervention by North Viet Nam to overthrow South Viet Nam.
