A career Marine officer will wed a young Texas woman at 4 p.m. today marking the first White House wedding in over half a century. The ceremony draws attention to a notable national moment amid ongoing public and political events.
Arthur J. Goldberg plans to quit as chief U.S. delegate to the United Nations within weeks after wrapping up pending UN issues. President Johnson has a replacement lined up, with White House remaining noncommittal on the timing of the resignation.

Legislative leaders moved quickly to finish a major Social Security bill for President Johnson by midweek. The measure affects 24 million Social Security beneficiaries with increased benefits and taxes, including early discharge provisions for naval personnel.

In Breckenridge near Eliasville a widow Mrs Mabel Hill in her 70s was killed by gunfire and her daughter Mrs J W Bennett of Fort Worth was wounded. Hill, the widow's son, was arrested on murder and attempted murder charges. A pistol was found near a telephone pole. Navy early discharge plans announced but no effect on overall strength.
