Advocates of higher pensions for Civil War veterans pressed the Sherwood dollar a day bill on the House floor. Debate continues with a final vote slated for Tuesday afternoon. Opponents voiced some objections as Isaac Sherwood, the bill’s sponsor and oldest member of the House and a federal veteran, urged passage.

Mia Vance and her seven year old daughter Mildred suffered severe burns when a stove fire started after 1 a.m. in their Dallas home. An oil can held by Mildred and the blaze on the stove are blamed for the accident. the child is not expected to live and Mrs. Vance is in danger.
Sam Lucas was sent to jail without bond after arraignment before Justice Maben on a murder charge involving Maude Tatum. He waived examination trial. bail denial followed evidence from Harry Hamilton and his wife presented at the inquest. Justice Maben previously ruled Tatum died from choking, with the same evidence cited.
Georgetown Texas will host the three day inauguration of Southwestern University president Charles M Bishop with Methodist Episcopal Church leaders arriving. President W P Few of Durham College will deliver the academic address and a regional preacher will preside, as exercises span the weekend.

A Fort Worth man employed at a local laundry was fined $40 and costs after pleading guilty to charges of cursing a young woman who worked at the same laundry.
A Cotton Belt train and the Katy local collided in heavy fog this morning near Fort Worth. Mrs. William Ford of Keller was cut about the head and several passengers were bruised by the jolting. Railroad officials blame the fog for the wreck.

Fulton Missouri December 8 A case of the unwritten law is docketed for trial in the Callaway County circuit court next week. Defendant Richard M Johnson will be tried for the murder of John Griges at Boydsville last summer.
Gifford Pinchot addressed the National Irrigation Congress amid a challenge from Albert Bartlett of Cheyenne who called Pinchot’s irrigation theory narrow and inadequate Bartlett anticipated Pinchot’s remarks while Willard Helt of New Mexico and Dowicht Heard also spoke at the session.
