Admiral Scheer Sinks Doric Star in South Atlantic
The 10,086 ton British freighter Doric Star was reported sunk in the South Atlantic by the German pocket battleship Admiral Scheer. A fire destroyed the Happy Wheat Growers Elevator in Happy early this morning, burning 15009 bushels of wheat and causing an estimated 27500 dollar loss. T. W. Hawkins of Amarillo first spotted the blaze at about 5:30, but the fire department could not reach the building as it was outside the district and water supply was inadequate. Tulsa equipment arrived too late to help. The structure built in 1930 housed by a local growers group and insured. Some wheat may be salvaged for stock feed.

Thompson Seeks Allowable Hike in Oil Proration
Col Ernest Thompson of the railroad commission Monday requested a revision of the current proration order for December to raise the daily allowable to 80 000 barrels per day. Russian squadron crashes in Finnish snowstorm near Ladoga
