Oil depletion clause sparks mixed views in industry
Washington December 4 oil men react to a new depletion allowance section from the ways and means committee. The draft retains a fifty percent allowance but limits it to a discovered area of 160 acres with only the nearest neighbor within a quarter mile of the discovery wall eligible. Joint drilling is given a small offset. Industry eyes Senate action seeking liberalization while noting possible field-wide effects and continued push for broader discovery relief.
