Armed citizens and officers hunted a negro accused of killing 30 year old Mellie Williams Brockman and burning her body beside a truck after a railroad bridge set on fire near Fuqua 20 miles west of Kountze. Two train crew members fired at the suspect who fled into brush while a large posse searched the area.
Carl W. Wickman, a Denver pharmacist, spoke to reporters about a murder charge over his fourth wife's death near Albuquerque. He admitted beating DonaIda Wickman with a tire tool per a confession but denied responsibility for two prior wives' deaths. He said he felt terribly sorry and not afraid to die, insisting he did not kill the others.

Thousands from Winfield and Wichita scoured hedgerows, culverts, woods and streams as volunteers combed the Ninnescah River and other areas to locate the couple amid fears of foul play.
Alexander Lege longtime farmer industrialist and first chairman of the Federal Farm Board died at his Hinsdale home from heart disease. He rose from farm labor to lead the War Industries Board and served as Wilson's economic expert at the Versailles Conference. Lege held top roles at International Harvester and influenced agricultural policy. His wife died years earlier and he leaves multiple nephews in Nebraska and California.
Col Charles A Lindbergh and his wife failed in two attempts to launch their fuel heavy seaplane from Bathurst Gambia aiming for a South American flight. Unfavorable winds and a hot sun hampered takeoff as surplus fuel was dumped and repairs attempted before a third try.
J R Readhimer, 56, indicted for murder in the Slaying of Floy dada high school student Stokes Campbell, set for trial in Judge Clark W Mullican's district court. Campbell was killed on Floydada Street April 6 and venue shifted from Floyd to Lubbock County. Vert A Readhimer, son, was acquitted in October on a related murder charge.
Hope wanes in St. Joseph as the Coast Guard reports it has virtually abandoned search for Roy Rutledge of Chicago and his brother Paul of De Kalb Illinois. The men disappeared Saturday afternoon after launching a small canoe to hunt ducks on Lake Michigan.
