General Motors President Harlow Curtice testified before the Senate Antitrust and Monopoly Subcommittee that GM treats customers, employers, suppliers, dealers and shareholders fairly. He defended the company's conduct after being pressed by the panel, which met for four hours with him.
A convoy of five 14 ton International pickups traveled from Springfield Ohio toward Los Angeles when the lead driver Martin Jannsen 30 from Ione Oregon hit an underpass with a 33 foot clearance. Three pickups on the top deck were smashed with one nearly flattened and another buckled into a circle. The two remaining trucks suffered heavy damage as the convoy was towed clear and traffic rerouted for 25 minutes.

New York December 2 1952 Burke gunman and jail breaker convicted of first degree murder for killing Edward Walsh 23 in a barroom July 23 1952. The all male jury deliberated 50 minutes before sentencing set for December 16. Burke 38 received mandatory death sentence and had a history as a waterfront muscle man with a Boston jail break and a later fugitive path.
Baytown whipped Houston Reagan 15-0 to stay undefeated in Class AAAA. Dallas Sunset defeated Fort Worth Paschal 16-7 to reach the semifinals. Other highlights include Alice routing Victoria 37-7 in AAA opening round and several Saturday matches shaping the semifinals.
Hollywood voters named the late James Dean among five finalists for best actor in the first annual Audience award poll. Other leaders include Marlon Brando Henry Fonda Glenn Ford and William Holden. Best pictures listed are Mr Roberts Battle Cry Blackboard Jungle Love Is a Many Splendored Thing and A Man Called Peter. Winners are named Tuesday night.
Adlai Stevenson and Gov. Gennen Williams of Michigan said they would talk over their differences on the 1952 Democratic campaign. They spoke at the National Convention of Young Democrats in Oklahoma City and briefly met, with Stevenson noting no war of words and a possible Florida primary entry.
The Texas ASC released 1956 cotton acreage allotments showing East and Central Texas counties gaining acreage while overall state totals drop about 7 percent. West and South Texas lose large portions as new acreage shifts continue. A 400-foot span of a temporary bridge fell during dismantling, throwing about 100 people into the Rio Grande bed. Thirty-two were injured, two critically. aid arrived from San Antonio, including doctors, nurses, blood plasma, and antibiotics. The existing halt left some victims moved to Mexico or the town hospital.
Conservative Democratic strategy for 1956 precinct and county conventions was laid out in a two day conference in Austin. Sergeants at arms guarded the Austin Hotel ballroom as leaders gathered.
