In a letter that accompanies a report President Truman outlines a plan to write off most dollar balances tied to lend-lease. He credits Allied nations for contributing to the pool of armed might and notes victory over the Axis as the aim achieved by aid.
Allied forces moved to establish occupation across Atsugi Yokosuka and Yokohama with General MacArthur as supreme commander in Yokohama and Admiral Halsey at Yokosuka. Troops advanced by air and sea, prisoners of war freed, and Tokyo's bombed districts showed destruction yet orderly capitulation signals emerged as plans for formal surrender on Missouri Bay were outlined.
President Truman said he has no objection to a military court martial but cannot order one, citing lack of authority. He blamed the country for Pearl Harbor readiness and outlined views on investigations, governance, and accountability alongside Navy and Army leaders.

Officials of the Phillips Free Fair invite service men to attend as the three day Labor Day event opens with a square dance on the Phillips municipal tennis courts followed by a parade and rodeo contests in Borger with $1,150 in cash prizes. The Phillips Lions Club sponsors the fair featuring exhibits, a midway and other attractions funded to provide recreational facilities for local youths.
