Amarillo fans urged to back the Giants as they battle for the pennant in the Texas League with two games left against Dallas Fort Worth. Ap preciation Day is planned for Sunday at 2 30 p m with Super-Fan Ray Oliver in charge. Attendance aims for 70 000 this season to boost a pennant chase.

The House passed a two month appropriations bill and a two year 1.18 billion spending measure proposing 298 million in new taxes. Both moves go to the Senate for finance review as lawmakers redraw tax and spending plans. Smith urged a joint House Senate session to resolve the tax tangle and suggested raising the sales tax from 3 to 3.5 percent.
London report quotes fifth husband Mickey Deans claiming Judy Garland left about 1 million dollars in debt at death. He says she earned roughly 10.8 million over her life but was virtually broke, with half owed to the Internal Revenue Service. Garland gained fame as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Plainview officials and Missouri Beef Packers executives hold groundbreaking for a 240 acre plant to slaughter 1500 head daily, with a $2 million payroll and $100 million annual sales, slated for completion by fall 1970 on the Plainview site.
A 22-year-old Amarillo Negro, Ronald Eugene McDonald of 403 N Adams, was shot in the lower back as he fled from Potter County deputies around 11 15 p m Wednesday. Deputy Frank Watson fired a .38 caliber slug, McDonald is in serious condition at Northwest Texas Hospital and slated for bullet removal surgery. The incident followed deputies requesting the man to come to their car near 3rd and Van Buren.
Believe To Find It turned the theft warrant over to us and we found McDonald at the 77 Club. When we told him to come outside we had a warrant for him, he did. He bolted, and Watson shot him near the rear of Club Delisa on 38th and Van Buren as he tried to flee.
El Paso reports the National Student Association congress ended with racism named as the fall focus for campus activism. Over 500 delegates debated funds for the newly formed National Black Students Association, approving $50,000 amid claims past NSA misused similar monies.
