Army guns to boom in mourning for Secretary of War Gibb Gilchrist pays surprise visit to protest censorship. Gaps in No. 4 highlight regional infrastructure and defense concerns across the Panhandle.
Gibb Gilchrist Texas state highway engineer outlined a tentative 12 month plan during a Amarillo visit. The program includes paving Highway 66 to the New Mexico line and Highway 60 from Randall to Castro counties with drainage work in Palmer County.Contracts for 1937 are to be let in November and December with state and federal aid funding.
Plains cowboys gathered at Can yon for a two day T Anchor round-up. They renewed wagon bosses, branded strays, checked yearlings, and praised a hearty feast at Wragge's Park. Seventeen members memorialized as losses over the past year and a day of music and reminiscence followed.

Wheeler county plans a two day event at Kelly Brothers Ranch with a Friday barbecue starting at 5 PM and a full program to begin at 7 PM. About a thousand farmers and their sons are expected to attend the first such picnic in the region with overnight bedding on the grounds and Saturday morning activities.
A fatal blaze at George Griffin’s Berlin Township farm home near Honesdale kills five people, including Griffin and his wife, and three children aged 12, 10, and 8. The fire occurred on August 27.

Clovis resident Jake Laan reports his Fox terrier Fritz wandered during a trip to Tatum and Jal. After an 86 mile journey back home, Fritz appeared at his front door eight days later, thin but safe, completing a remarkable homecoming.
In Sudan, Aug 27 a lone gunman robbed the First National Bank of Sudan taking roughly $2207. One man held the bank while another waited outside in a light sedan. Deputies across Lamb, Terry and Lubbock counties hunted for the pair as a description of a similar car moved through Brownfield heading east.
