Frisco Hawaii seaplane hero dies in Delaware river fall
Commander John Rodgers famed for the San Francisco to Hawaii flight is dead after a land plane dropped into the shallow Delaware River near Philadelphia. Rodgers, 80, died in hospital two hours after sustaining critical injuries. His mechanic Samuel Schultz was injured with a broken back.

Mine Explosion Kills 41 in Clymer Pennsylvania
Rescue teams recovered 41 bodies from the Clymer mine of the Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corp after a blast killed all 41 miners yesterday. Norman Spann 24 and Carl Farmer 22 of Headland Alabama said they had picked her up in Ardmore for a California trip to USC law school.
