Promise To End Strike At Port Arthur Renewed

Ralph Yarborough announced he will go to Port Arthur and stay until the 10 month strike ends. The Austin attorney criticized Gov. Allan Shivers for not restoring peace as about 1,500 listeners heard his address at the Tyler baseball park, parts broadcast by radio. He hailed the militant democracy spirit and accused “slander teams” of circulating fake photographs in the Port Arthur story.

Leading Jet Ace Killed In Mojave Desert Crash

Capt. Joseph McConnell Jr., 32, famed jet pilot with 16 Russian MIGs in Korean War service, died when his F86H Sabrejet crashed near Rogers Lake in the Mojave Desert during a local test flight. His body was found with the ejection seat, parachute nearby. He had ejected at low altitude and was on temporary duty at Edwards Air Force Base.

Amarillo man found not guilty of murder in Jan. shooting

A jury in 47th District Court acquitted G. B. Ware of Amarillo of murder in the January shooting of Cecil Ingram. Ware admitted to the shot claiming self defense as Ingram drove away from Ware’s property, the gun found later in Ingram’s glove box.

Three Story Addition Sought for Northwest Texas Hospital

Amarillo chamber directors back hospital committee findings and approve a three story addition to Northwest Texas Hospital.
