The Hon. Marvin Jones challenges Judge A J Folley over Nus a claimed birthplace with Uz Montague County and Amarillo anecdotes. Folley cites Nus stories and Montague County humor as counter, as Wis Izard notes the rival banter could end in a draw.
Officials would not comment on the reason for the transfer. Hamilton Elementary School, built three years ago near Beaufort Marine Air Station with federal funds for areas with military dependents, had been operated with those funds by the Beaufort School District.

The Amarillo City Commission unanimously rejected a $250,000 federal grant intended for a $5.8 million sanitary sewer system. Mayor Seale and City Manager Moss debated whether the aid was a handout or a cooperative investment as four commissioners signed a resolution opposing federal help.

A labor convention of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union passed a resolution calling for the chartering of unions for the unemployed by the AFL CIO and the Canadian Labor Congress. The aim is to dramatize needs before lawmakers and agencies and to help the idle find work, noting about 5,140,000 unemployed in July in the United States. The plan would have unions provide meeting halls and staff while existing unions currently lack representation for unemployed workers. Two members of the resolutions committee said no other unions had shown a similar move yet.

The Senate rejected an amendment to cut 315 million from Peace Corps funds and moved toward voting the corps on a permanent basis with 40 million for the first year. Senator Hick enlooper argued for a smaller budget and slower growth but his proposal failed 39 to 32, boosting prospects for permanent status. Final action delayed by debate over General Williams nomination.
Rescue crews off Corpus Christi saved Jimmy Seals, 18, after he floated and swam about 22 hours in the Gulf of Mexico without lifejacket. Companions Rickie and Buddy Halter, 16 and 14, also survived after about 6 hours 45 minutes in the water. the Halters are brothers.
Rickie and his brother Seals paddled toward shore after their 12 foot skiff sank leaving them 35 miles offshore near the Texas coast. A Navy helicopter rescued Seals while Rickie and the others clung to hope as fishing vessels Anna Louise and Double Dipper aided in the perilous night ordeal.
