Five Die As Cigarette Blamed In Pampa Apartment Fire
In Pampa on Sunday five members of the Louis Stone family died when a fire swept the Gilking Apartment House. Fire officials say a cigarette dropped in a chair in the basement of Thomas Lewis's unit started the blaze. Lewis, 32, was badly burned and sought water to fight the flames before fleeing for help as the building burned. Firemen Ralph Almquist and Dave Cathey reported spotting the fire and alerting authorities. Funeral services will be held for Louis Stone, Christine Stone, and their children Kenneth, Gary, and Betty Jean.
