Rotary Governor On Visit Today

Hiram Arrant governor of Rotary Twenty-seventh district and chemistry professor at Hardin-Simmons College Abilene will guest Amarillo Rotary today. Girl's Burning Death Probed in Covington Ky

The death of 22 year old Anna May Bishop was found on her bed with nude burned and bruised body. Coroner James P. Riffe noted cuts welts possibly from a lash and a large burn on her back. Detectives said wrists and ankles showed evidence she may have been bound with rope.

Lawyers to Elect Two to Code Board

Lawyers in the Ninth Judicial District will elect two members to assist in shaping a code of ethics for the Texas bar. The meeting starts at 10 o'clock in the district court room, called by Judge Reese Tatum. The appointees will join the state committee drafting rules for attorney discipline and a code of professional conduct for lawyers.

Wayside Picnic Promises Fun for All at Palo Duro Canyon

The Wayside community in Armstrong County holds its annual picnic with barbecue, red soda, peanuts, and entertainment. Old Time Cowpunchers Gather for Panhandle Reunion

Old cowpokes who punched cattle or worked on ranches in the Panhandle before 1896 meet today at Wragge's Park north of Canyon along the Amarillo Canyon highway. John Arnot of Amarillo, president, will preside as the Old-Time Cowpuncher's Association holds its annual reunion. The event features a beef dinner and stories as senior locals renew acquaintances.

Tribute Notices Mrs Nobles Amarillo Pioneer Remembered

Simple services honored Mrs. H A Nobles at her home and funeral at Llano Cemetery. Dr R Thomson praised her long life of service and family devotion. Nobles, 68, died after an attack of indigestion. She helped civic and church work and helped found the Nobles Brothers Grocery Company with her husband.

Deuces and Arabs Wild Kidnaped Preacher Teaches Poker

Rev. Gerould R. Goldner, 29, of Mogardore Ohio, captive of Palestine Arab kidnappers near Jerusalem, says he taught 15 captors to play poker with deuces wild. He won his captor’s shoes hat cloak and rope among other winnings, and later returned some to save face. Goldner and his father Rev. Jacob Goldner were abducted July 18. the father was released to arrange ransom and the son freed after payment of about half the $5,000 demanded. The son arrived on the Statendam.

Novelist Paul Horgan Praises Amarillo Mural Contest

Paul Horgan, noted novelist and playwright, lauds the 6500 dollar mural competition at the Amarillo post office.
