A freighter, the San Joaquin, battered by heavy seas 560 miles west of Guadalupe Islands, sent SOS as radio failed. Six rescue vessels steamed to aid. crew warned they may have to abandon ship if help did not arrive. The San Joaquin was initially thought to be the fishing boat San Joaquin but the latter was later found near San Pedro. The report appears from San Diego and San Angelo notes a separate August 20 incident where two highwaymen robbed Albert White of a truck and 50 cases of liquor worth 1250 dollars on a highway west of San Angelo.
