Hoover forms drought relief group seeks farmer loans

President Hoover met with the White House drought relief committee to map cooperation with state and county groups. Secretary Hyde designated 86 more counties in five states for emergency freight rate reductions, totaling nearly 700. Proposals include local credit corporations to offer farmers loans at up to 6 percent through intermediate banks, with plans to use $800,000 seed loans from a $6 million fund for affected states.

Weather forecast for Amarillo and vicinity Thursday

Amarillo and vicinity expect fair weather on Thursday with generally fair conditions across West Texas and New Mexico. Temperatures show little change with daytime highs in the 90s and lows around the 70s, and a trace to light precipitation reported in the 24 hours ending yesterday.

Anchor Vanguard On Ground At Canyon For Old Time Reunion

The vanguard of the T-Anchor and famed cow outfits reached Wragge's Park near Canyon and pitched camp by the historic headquarters. Ed Baird, Canyon VP of the T-Anchor Association, recalled riding in March 1883 to seek work. A typical cattle chute and long picnic tables were set for a noon barbecue with John Snider handling pits. Admission Thursday is by ticket, $2, and requires punching cattle or ranch work before December 31, 1895.

Cedars Hospital Destroyed by Fire in Crockett

Fire swept the Cedars hospital in Crockett early today causing an estimated loss of 40 000 to 45 000 dollars with about 30 000 dollars insured. The facility was owned and operated by Dr. C W Butler Jr who was away from town at the time.

Borger Woman Dies in Spearman Crash

Special to The News. Borger resident Mrs Oliver Henshaw 25 died in a crash 12 miles south of Spearman Tuesday night. Two Borger companions Mrs H P Campbell and Roy Reynolds were severely injured. Studebaker sedan demolished. Henshaw wife of Oliver Henshaw a tool dresser for Burch Drilling. Body sent to Borger pending funeral arrangements.

Albert Williamson Drops Dead at Show

Albert T. Williamson, age 2, collapsed at a medicine show near Eighth Avenue and North Pierce Street around 9:80 pm Wednesday, death from heart failure. Survived by parents Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Williamson of a farm north of Amarillo, two brothers Odis of Shamrock and Thurman of Amarillo, and five sisters in Amarillo and Childress. Body held at N. B. Griggs & Sons Funeral Chapel pending funeral arrangements, services likely Saturday.

Perryton Celebrates 11th Birthday with City Growth

Special to The News Perryton marks eleven years since its founding with a birthday party planned for August 22 23. Once treeless prairie the town site opened for lots and now hosts about 3000 residents and modern conveniences. Chas W Calloway White manager is expected to attend.

Six girls race in the National Women’s Air Derby as English Field in Chicago hosts a two day dedication with aviation shows. Gladys O’Donnell leads the 2,365 mile contest toward a $6,000 first prize while parachute jumps, plane displays, parking plans, and a Friday 9 p.m aerial wedding headline the program alongside a 20 mile race and balloon busting contests.

Man crushed by power shovel dies at camp near Boise City

E G Cook 85 Cushman Ark instantly killed about 730 am Wednesday at Walter Dennison camp on Santa Fe line Amarillo to Boise City. He was crushed between a gasoline power shovel and the bank as he walked behind the dipper. Foreman Mit Kirkes cried out but too late. Cook had 16 years around shovels and 15 years with Dennison. Lawyer Hired by Sid Payne for A D Payne Case

Homer A Callaway of Amarillo was employed Wednesday by Sid Payne of Tulsa to defend A D Payne, the confessed murderer of his wife. Payne’s arrest awaits grand jury action set for August 25 as Hutchinson County opens its fall term. Callaway visited the defendant with Sid Payne and planned to decide a plea after further developments.

In Sayre Oklahoma on August 20 Frank Griffin co defendant with Joe Pounds and Jess Brown, already serving life for Sheriff lips murder, testified in his own defense denying a signed confession to the county attorney. He said the statement was made under duress and that he knew nothing of Pounds and Browns plan to kill Phillips.

Garage and Car Destroyed by Fire at Madison Street

Fire of undetermined origin discovered at 8 11 Wednesday afternoon destroyed a garage and large roadster at 9072 Madison. The car owned by Jim Armstrong, a driver for the American Laundry. No loss estimate given. Equipment from Central and San Jacinto stations arrived to find the garage in flames.

Election Party On Saturday Night

The News-Globe will host an election night party Saturday to cover the Sterling Ferguson contest and all state and local races. Returns on the governor and local races will be broadcast and flashed on the screen as they arrive, with Sixth Street roped off for crowds. Special wires will bring in state totals by county.
