Two Carnival S Men Held for Buying Loot
Higgins, Aug. 19. Two Higgins carnival men, Ed Green and A. C. Bedwelder, are held after two Higgins boys Wilbur Rakes and Fred Wallace confessed to stealing about $1000 in merchandise and jewelry from local stores and homes. The loot was sold for about $4 to the carnival men. All stolen property has been recovered and most returned. Rakes testified Bedwelder and Green offered to buy stolen goods. Bedwelder denies charges. The youths were bound over to the district court on $1000 bond. the carnival men on $1500 bond remain unposted.

Amarillo taxi driver Lewis Shorty Avritt has been missing since August 8 and is believed to have been killed. A passenger using alias names, Nolan McCaleb, was in Amarillo briefly. Avritt last telegrammed August 10 from Mertzon saying further messages would follow, but none have arrived.

Caldwell County Man Injured in Auto Collision
Caldwell County resident French Piller was hospitalized in San Marcos with serious injuries after a weekend crash near Fentress. He suffered a crushed leg possibly needing amputation, a broken other leg, a broken collar bone, and three broken ribs. Man Shot at Dallas Dies in Hospital
